Motorola under a new parent Lenovo is all guns blazing. They have just released an updated version of their Moto G5 and G5 Plus models just a few months after their release. The phone’s being the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus. This is an addition to their widely successful G series portfolio.
Motorola aims to sell these phones alongside the earlier released Moto G5 and G5 plus. There are some very interesting upgrades that have been made to the respective models that very certainly does command the extra premium that it will be retailing for.
The Moto G5S is a 5.2-inch metal clad unibody construction. The display sports a full HD 1080p screen giving us a slightly lower pixel density of 424ppi against the 441ppi of the G5. The display is reinforced by Corning Gorilla glass 3.
For the hardware, the Moto G5 has a 64bit octa core Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of ram and 32GB inbuilt ROM expandable to 128 GB via a micro SD card. The chip clocks in at 1.4 GHz which is decent fire power. It comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box. Taking care of the picture clicking business at the rear is a 16 MP, f/2.0 aperture lens aided with a dual tone flashlight able to shoot video at 1080p quality. In the front is a 5MP shooter doing duty also aided by a single led flash to brighten up the picture quality.
The home button down below comes embedded with a fingerprint scanner that is fairly on point. Additionally, it is equipped with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2 LE and a 3000mah battery having the revered turbo charge capability.
Moto G5S Plus
The Moto G5S Plus is a 5.5-inch metal clad unibody construction. This too sports a 1080p full HD display but due to the screen being even bigger the display pixel density comes in at 401ppi. This display too is reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
In the hardware department the G5S plus is a little ahead being the elder sibling, therefore, comes with the octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked in at 2GHz. This does come in two variants one being a 3GB ram and 32GB ROM and the other being the 4GB ram and 64GB ROM variant, both having the capability of being expanded if the need arises with a micro SD card till 128GB. This too comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box. The picture clicking duty at the rear is handled by a dual camera setup of 13 MP sensors (RGB and monochrome) with a f/2.0 aperture aided by a dual tone led flashlight. It carries the ability to store videos with the higher 4K resolution. In the front is an 8MP f/2.0 aperture lens aided with a single led flash for the selfies.
On the connectivity front, the Moto G5S plus share the backbone with the G5 i.e. comes with the same sized battery as well as wireless network capabilities.
Price & Availability
The models go on sale at €249 for the G5S and €299 for the G5S plus (the base model). They are released in gray and gold colors to be made available globally in this month.
