The latest Demo Day hosted by the Entrepreneur Roundtable Accelerator was held recently, and this is a round-up of the twelve startups that were provided a like never before platform to meet potential investors.
The ERA, for is an accelerator program to which hundreds of startups apply every year seeking seed investments. The program is also known for providing the participating startups with a mentor relevant to their industry who guides them in their go to market strategy. This year’s Demo Day at ERA saw eleven of twelve participating startups receive USD 40,000 seed funding. The participating startups were from varied industries starting from B2B marketplaces to a cybersecurity platform. One startup that got a lot of attention was an IoT connected dog house.
We bring you a brief on some notable mentions from this year’s Demo Day at the ERA
Caylent is a development operations platform, also called DevOps in the startup world. This platform leverages the cloud as a vehicle to enable software developers a smart way of building, rolling out and managing their containers using. This essentially means that a user will be able to building and upkeep of new projects and programs at organizations, becoming something of a solo unit powerhouse. The platform is expanding into providing feasibility for testing, building and deploying apps as well as management of servers. For container management technology, Caylent has tied up with Docker. This partnership enables deployment of new code in a single click, testing and monitoring automatically that enables a single developer to take up the entire job of a DevOps machine. What made this startup even more attractive was, that during their presentation, it was made known to the public, that Microsoft had invested cloud infrastructure in Caylent. This increased its potential appeal in the audience exponentially.
ClearChat is a secure platform for enterprises communications. This is designed to take over Slack but with improved Cybersecurity. It has clearly found its audience in the age when a new privacy breach is reported every other day. ClearChat is aimed to end these breaches since the loss of personal data of individuals, and confidential data of organizations can lead to massive cyber frauds.
ColoadX is a marketplace developed solely for B2B transactions in the international ocean freight industry, which is till date looked upon as antiquated. The aim of founders of CoLoadX was to modernize the ocean freight shipping across the globe. This along with not only savings on shipping costs but also to become the sole means of doing shipping business at scale.
Surprisingly they had a great start and had covered a few seas and oceans already as their first few clients ranged from New York City to Dubai. CoLoadX is currently lead by Fauad Shariff, Petere Miner, and Salima Fassell. The three are focused on renewing, reviving and redesigning the new way of doing shipping container business in the industry. To make this happen, they designed the organization in a way that enables most cost effective proposals for clients. Another aspect, unheard of till now in this industry was, doing this business online. This came as a breath of fresh air for an industry that was traditionally heavily dependent on fax machines and phone calls. What remains to be seen is just how many customers they can find in a time that makes them profitable and sustainable.
- Dog Parker
This one was truly an attractive offering and were previously seen on Disrupt NY earlier this year. The aim of Dog Parker is to enable stores, restaurants and all kinds of retail outlets to have a secure and temperature controlled cordoned area where visitors can park their dogs while they shop or eat at these locations. The users are charged by the minute just like vehicle parking lots. The insight behind this business idea is that when a retail location has such secure areas on their premise, it attracts more walk-ins that are otherwise reduced due to a no-pets policy of such outlets. Many restaurants also deny entry if you walk in with your dog due to standard health regulations reasons. The brilliance of the idea is that it applies to any offline business that makes money due to walk in and drive further business irrespective of its industry type.
Since these areas are secure, secured, anti-bacterial and temperate-controlled housing for dogs, pet owners will be satisfied to leave them behind, making their experiences more delightful and increasing chances of repeat walk-ins. The idea is extended to an app that the pet owners can use to locate a Dog Parker nearby and reserve parking of their dogs.
- Felix Gray
Felix Gray is a health-related startup that focuses on your eyes. Founded by David Roger and Chris Benedict, Felix Gray catered to both adults and children but targeted more specifically for millennials. It retails eye glasses protecting your eyes from the blue light spectrum from the glare of screens in laptops and mobiles. Eye strain from this blue light spectrum is rapidly becoming a big concern since we are surrounded by screens for as long as we are awake. This prolonged exposure causes eye strains and dry eyes that subsequently causes headaches and leads to poor sleep cycles.
There are various other organizations that offer such eye wear solutions, but what makes Felix Gray different is its affordability. Their protective eye glasses cost $95 with the blue light filter or $75 without.
It is noted, however, that this cost could go down further by any other organization tomorrow that beats Felix Gray’s scale of production. Also, it becomes important to note that this problem can possibly be fixed permanently from hardware’s side instead of the user having to buy temporary solution such as these Felix Gray glasses. For instance, Apple has had a night mode in iPhone devices for years now; that transmits orange light to negate the blue light spectrum and makes the user sleep better.
